PREPARING FOR THE PYROCENE: in review

PLEASE READ THIS ARTICLE IN CONJUNCTION WITH CSN’S POSTING ABOUT THE PRESENTATION ON SEPTEMBER 17/26 AND THE INTRODUCTION OF CSN’S NEW AIR QUALITY MONITOR PROGRAM.

With the recent cooler and wetter weather, thoughts of extreme wildfires may not be as prominent as they were earlier this summer when we were receiving daily air quality warnings due to dangerous smoke and news of homes and communities being consumed by wildfires. Yet scientific data, insurance companies and governments are foreseeing that the hazards created by extreme wildfire are anticipated to increase, and expand, over the long term. Regions of Canada that were historically immune to concerns of wildfire are more and more aware of their vulnerability. Only a few months ago our neighbouring counties of Grey and Bruce were under extreme warnings of wildfire danger, and Ontario experienced its worst wildfire season on record.

This intent of this seminar was to provide our community with information to understand wildfire, its nature, and measures that can be taken to address it. Clearview Sustainability Network (CSN), with the support of Cooperators Insurance/Kelly Financial Services presented “Preparing for the Pyrocene,” on September 17, 2026 to a large crowd at the Creemore Legion Lounge. The presentation was given by wildfire fighter Andrew Pearson, MB (Medal of Bravery) in which he shared his experiences, knowledge and recommendations.
